Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) retained Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Consulting services from PNF Engineering for a 7-storey residential building, located on 168 John Street. The existing heating boiler plant was approaching end of life service and required replacement.

After a thorough investigation, PNF provided TCHC a detailed analysis and report. This report presented the findings, feasible options and recommendations and outlined the scope and sequence of work. PNF began the new design based on the selection made by the Client. This stage included new modulating building heating boilers along with condensing boilers for the domestic hot water system. A new water fill system, expansion tank, heating pumps, air separator assembly and DHW recirculating pumps were required as well.

During construction, PNF updated TCHC on the work progress and as per the design all ductwork and piping penetrating the wall, ceiling, and floor was to have a firestop in place. PNF conducted regular construction progress site walkthroughs to ensure that all work proceeded as per design. Our regular site audits also include a review of all site HSE requirements such as clear exit routes and emergency lighting and signage to accommodate changing site conditions.
