Health Canada Laboratories – Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions - Chiller Plant Upgrade
PNF Engineering served as Mechanical Engineering consultants for Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions (BGIS). The project involved the replacement of the existing cooling system for Public Works & Government Services, Health Canada Laboratories.
PNF performed an investigation and provided an analysis report with findings, feasible options and recommendations presented, including budget estimates. PNF developed a design and sequence of work which involved replacing the existing chiller, cooling tower as well as auxiliary pumps, piping, and controls.
During the design process, PNF proposed a unique solution involving the replacement of an older chiller set as well as the introduction of redundant back up pumps to ensure continuity of service in the event of emergencies or equipment issues. Furthermore, by replacing the old chiller with a new magnetic bearing chiller energy savings of approximately 35% were achieved compared to the existing system.
